What Is Trello ?

Trello is an online platform where you can share workspaces between individuals in a group to track a projects progress. You can assign tasks to different people, and they can mark down what stage they are at with it in real time. This makes tracking a project with lots of tasks easier between a team of people and you can see how much needs to be done, what people are making at this moment, and what has already been done.

How can Trello help a games dev team?

Trello can be helpful for a games dev team as it makes it as easy place to track and manage tasks between people and teams. It allows for everyone apart of the project to see everything that needs to be done and what other teams are working on. It allows for new tasks to be set, and to great a way to see tasks you still have to complete.

How did your team use it?

We used Trello a lot at the beginning of the project. At the start there was an overwhelming amount of work for each team, so we used Trello to great a list of everything that needed to be done to start making the game. This was helpful as people didn't get lost within how much we had to do to make the game coherent, and could instead on each individual task at a time.

Pros and Cons

The Pros are that you can easily list and assign different tasks to different people, and even set deadlines for them so people know when they need to be done by. It also displays it as an easy to see list of tasks, and you can move it from one list to the other once it has been completed or if it needs more work. Its great also for small teams that have a lot of work to distribute between people, so you can easily see what tasks are yours.

The Cons are that you can put priorities on different tasks other than putting it in the description of having an earlier deadline, which means people might be doing less meaningful tasks which aren't needed right now compared to one large task. The list format also means if you have a lot of tasks to complete listed, it makes it harder to look through and can feel overwhelming to see a long list of tasks that need to be done. Working in larger teams might also pose an issue as there would be a lot of tasks to individually assign each person and trying to find your tasks might be take a while compared too a smaller team.

How would you use it in the future?

I would probably use it to track important parts of a project that need to be prioritized so you can see the most important features that need to be made and when they need to get done, but not use it for smaller things and tasks until most of the prioritized work is done.
